May 4 Sun 1-2 pm Merrill Crockett and Rita Hermann—Herbs: Did yours winter/spring/winter over? Now what? Master gardeners Merrill Crockett and Rita Hermann of Old Friends are back to help us out with our spring herb garden—including a range of less common varieties of herbs! They will discuss bed preparation, container gardening, what, when and where to trim and spring/early summer harvesting. Culinary herb fans, call soon! This class fills fast!
May 18 Sun 1-2 pm Christine Nguyen, Pad-Si-Yu. Pad-Si-Yu is a standard one-dish meal in Thailand. Similar to Pad Thai, it is a flavorful stir-fry of rice noodles, beef and vegetables. It’s a quick and healthy dish that can be made any night of the week.
May 21 Wed 12-1 pm Knife Skills—Ed Bartusch is our sales representative from the Wüsthof-Trident cutlery company and has spent most of his career putting his point across about good knives. If you get a little edgy around sharp tools, you need to bolster your courage, stiffen your spine and come learn what the whole tang is about! Ed will teach his twice-a-year class in buying, caring for and using fine cutlery in our Knife Skills class. You’ll gain some very valuable knowledge of techniques of slicing, carving, mincing, chopping and even some garnishing tips. You’ll also learn what makes a good knife and which knife to use when. We’ll also discuss sharpening, storing and proper cleaning of fine cutlery. This is very much a basic class for everyone, no matter what their level of culinary expertise!
June 1 Sun 1-2 pm CLASS FULL! Christine Nguyen, Pad Thai One of the most well-known and popular dishes in Thai restaurants, Pad Thai is a culinary delight with hot, salty, sweet and sour flavors. Tender rice noodles are tossed with chicken, Chinese chives and a lovely tamarind sauce, all topped with fragrant crushed peanuts and juicy lime wedges. THIS REPEAT OF A VERY POPULAR CLASS IS FULL.
June 29 Sun 12-3 pm Knife Benefit. Ed Bartusch of Wüsthof will be here to sharpen knives. Limit three (3) per person. Donations to the Humane Society of Huron Valley. Donation jar will be on the counter. Last year we raised $250.00 at each sharpening.
July 13 Sun 12-3 pm Christine Nguyen, Thai Beef Summer Rolls. Thai Grilled Beef (Neua Yang) is sliced and combined with lettuce and herbs inside a delicate rice paper roll to make a light, refreshing dish that has all the hot, sour, salty and sweet flavors of Southeast Asian cuisine in one bite.
